On the most recent installment of This American Life, themed “Doppelgängers”, the first segment investigated something I never ever wondered but am now incredibly curious about: is pig bung being sold as calamari?
You know, a fine question. I think.
Ben Calhoun told the tale that culminated in a taste test between the two fried products. I won’t spoil the ending but I will mention that there are no confirmed cases of this actually happening – causing one newspaper to suggest it wasn’t worth reporting at all – but the differences between the two don’t appear to be all that significant.
Good times. Don’t know if I’ll eat calamari again. WELL PLAYED, IRA GLASS.
