Oreos, Part 7: Newman-O’s

A while back, I wrote about so-called “Organic Oreos,” which really weren’t. They were just a more health food-version of my favorite snack. However, I can now say I’ve truly tried “Organic Oreos:” Newman-O’s.

Newman-O’s are slightly less bad for you than regular Oreos since they don’t have any partially hydrogenated oils (which equals less cholesterol and less saturated fat) and their ingredients are organically grown. They run about the same price as Oreos ($3.49 for a 16 ounce package) and are available in health food stores as well as regular grocery stores. All post-tax profits are donated to charity. Paul Newman’s a good guy.

How about the taste? Eh. They’re decent enough as long as you’re not expecting an exact duplicate of an Oreo. I still like the Fresh Fields store-brand of faux-Oreos (“Ore-fauxs”?) better, but these are still good enough to pick up periodically. -ram
