Toilets, software, and rocket scientists

From the wonderfully headlined Overflow toilet tragedy leads to invention comes a simple, “why-doesn’t-this-already-exist” invention called the “Toilet Guardian:”

The device is an emergency water shut-off valve that can be installed on existing toilets. It senses rising water and turns off the water supply at the fill valve.

The two key markets for the product are nursing homes and college dormitories.

“There’s a lot of software involved; we had to have an actual rocket scientist help us with the design,” Parrish said.
