The Journal offers up a perfect interface for keeping a journal as well as looking back at past entries. That’s where the real interest lies for me — when I got my old Apple II up and running again, I found loads of old journal entries I wrote during high school. Some were simply exercises in writing, others were the typical teen-angst type entries bitching about this and that. In any event, I imported about two years worth of entries into The Journal and had an absolute blast reading them all for the first time in six years. I’ve also been adding entries (by hand, since the originals were handwritten) from my Vietnam trip journal. I’m considering importing certain entries from my blog as well.
I’ve been trying to become more conscientious of writing frequently. The more I think about it, the more I want to get down the various thoughts and everyday events in my life not just for future reference, but for my kids and grandkids, should they ever have an interest in knowing what their loony father/grandfather was like.
So, if you keep a journal (online or off), consider giving The Journal a trial run. I was sold after two days, something that’s pretty hard to do since I’m so picky about my software. -ram
