Over on TechCrunch, there’s an interesting piece where the author suggests that perhaps Netflix could have a role in saving TV shows that have cult followings but not the sheer viewing numbers in order to stay on the air. Shows like Firefly, which was canceled before its first season was even up but had such a following that it spawned a (successful?) movie.
Sounds like an interesting prospect and one that I certainly wish was around 11 years ago today, when NBC decided to cancel the greatest television show ever made, Freaks and Geeks, after shuffled it around the schedule to the point no one knew it was on. (On that topic, two pieces worth reading: a recap of a recent FnG reunion and this classic piece by Apatow detailing how his show was screwed by NBC.)
