Last week, Virgin America announced it would start service from O’Hare to San Francisco and LA starting in May.
I can not tell you how happy this makes me.
Back in 2007 when I was a consultant, I flew United. I got up to their 1K status in a relatively short amount of time, had my pick of flights, etc. but I always pined for Virgin’s service; United was fine but nothing special at all. And I’ve flown a few times for work over the past year and have used American… definitely the same deal there.
Virgin just seems to be a modern airline. Power ports at every seat, food and drink menus, wifi, etc. And get this – I understand that the “no smoking” sign is gone! Given that the smoking ban on flights in the US is 20 years old, this seems reasonable.
While Virgin only has one gate at O’Hare and just a smattering of flights, I welcome them with open arms and an open wallet. If anyone out there has flown Virgin America and has enjoyed the heck out of it, as I suspect one would, feel free to rub it in.
