Even though I’m just days into owning a smartphone, I certainly understand the appeal. I was able to stream a Pandora station in my car without any problems, for instance, and it was one of those, “Holy crap, this is amazing!” moments. Of course that’ll all be for naught if we don’t get wireless net neutrality here in the US, but I digress.
I admit I still don’t feel a need to check in wherever I go. I can understand why it’s useful and fun, especially for seeing where friends are. But I can also see that it’s a crazy competitive space. Facebook, Gowalla, Foursquare, Latitude… there are nearly as many ways to check in as there are places. (Yes, there are only 6 places on earth.)
Should I start checking in, I suspect I’ll stick to Facebook because that’s where my network of friends and family are. But we’ll see. It’s still amazing stuff in any case.
