I was saddened to hear of the passing of Manute Bol, who devoted much of his time and money earned while in the NBA to improving conditions in his native Sudan.
One part of the story sounded very interesting to me though: he was allegedly the originator of the phrase, “My bad.” I say allegedly because lots of people aren’t convinced, although many sites included citations from newspaper articles.
I suspect Bol helped popularize the phrase. But what surprised me about the Boing Boing comments was that a couple of people mentioned that this phrase was in use in the early 80s in Ohio of all places! It’s bizarre to think about that phrase being 30 years old already but, here we are.
