Watching football this weekend, I started thinking, “You know, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen a barefoot kicker.” I remember as a kid, seeing a few barefoot kickers, including Tony Frankling of the Eagles. It always amazed me — could it really be easier on them to kick without a shoe? Particularly in winter?
As far as I can tell, it’s been about 20 years since the NFL has had a barefoot placekicker. I think it’s a trend that needs to come back.
