As I’m sure you were, I was saddened by the news that Reading Rainbow‘s last episode airs today.
It’s funny but I’ve come to expect that PBS educational shows will simply be there forever. I expected the same of Mister Rogers and I definitely expect that of Sesame Street. Sad, then, that Rainbow’s end came due to a lack of money:
The show’s run is ending, [home station WNED’s John] Grant explains, because no one — not the station, not PBS, not the Corporation for Public Broadcasting — will put up the several hundred thousand dollars needed to renew the show’s broadcast rights.
Hopefully the episodes will continue to air for years to come, though.
