Twitter Poetry

There are two things I love: long poetry that rhymes but makes no sense and a clever use of Twitter’s API. And guess what! There’s something that combines these two loves:

The Longest Poem in the World

What is it? It’s “composed by aggregating real-time public twitter updates and selecting those that rhyme. It is constantly growing at ~4000 verses / day.”

The start of the verse that’s on the front page right now is up there with something Emily Dickinson would have written:

Yay home and away 🙂
And ian is gay
going away party for chelsea and i tonight.
And so i say, GRAB YO CHANCES VERY DARN TIGHT!
NEED I SAY MORE NAMES COME OUT AND PEOPLE SHUT UP RIGHT
is so tired and just wants to sleep! but it’s Friday night!!!!
And I love you way more!
And now it starts to pour!

Dickinson, too, loved accusing Ian of being gay and in writing in all caps.

This sounds like something a very emo teenager would write:

I know you’re still mine although you have someone else and so do I
Nobody is worth your tears, and the one who is won’t make you cry
Just woke up from the best nap and my swollen face is coming down too
It IS as bad as you think. And they ARE out to get you.
Waiting to go to dinner with mom and dad
I want to go and sit in the park soo bad…

What is this then?

The Daily Ping is the web's finest compendium of toilet information and Oreo™® research. Too much? Okay, okay, it's a daily opinion column written by two friends. Did we mention we've been doing this for over ten years? Tell me more!
