Restoration hardware (and software)

Yesterday, my work PC gave up the ghost. There are a few things I’m thankful for today as I sit working on a new machine, trying to bring myself back up to speed:

  • Backup – Though I did lose some data because a few directories hadn’t been backed up as recently as they should have been, most everything else was backed up recently, so it just becomes a matter of deciding what’s worth restoring.
  • Web apps – Thanks to a greater reliance on things like gmail and Google Docs for certain things, there aren’t quite as many apps I need to reinstall or data I need to re-import
  • Redundant online backup – Using something like Dropbox makes it no big deal when a machine crashes since those documents live on on the web as well as on other machines.

Restoring isn’t nearly as painful as it used to be.

What is this then?

The Daily Ping is the web's finest compendium of toilet information and Oreo™® research. Too much? Okay, okay, it's a daily opinion column written by two friends. Did we mention we've been doing this for over ten years? Tell me more!
