Didja ever notice that whenever someone says something was “like a car wreck” they always have to clarify it by saying some variation of, “It was terrible, but I just couldn’t look away,” as if no one would have any clue what they meant without the clarification? Trust me: WE KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN.
From now on, if I ever utter that played out phrase, I’m going to say, “It was like a car wreck. It was terrible, but I really enjoy seeing mangled flesh and bone and the destruction of human life, so I had to look.”
