Empire Commercials Galore

Today’s Ping is late. Thanks, Qwest tech support! No really, thanks… even though it took a while.

If there’s any jingle that I can instantly recall from my childhood, it’s Empire Carpet. 588-2300… Empire! Empire has been around since the late 1870s and impressively, their phone number has stayed the same.

But that jingle is permanently etched into my brain and I’ll know it until the day I die. Why? The commercials. And smartly Empire itself has set up an archive of their commercials. It’s very YouTube-ish because the commercials themselves are hosted at YouTube. And as a result, we get awesome stuff like this:

Thanks, Empire.

Okay, back when I was young our phone numbers had words used in the prefix. My home phone was HI8-1934 or Hilltop 8 – 1934.

Figuring a word for their phone number I came up with LUcky 8 – 2300. What was it really? Or do you remember?

Happy holidays all,

Oh yes, I can hear it quite clearly! Merry Christmas, Pingers.

What is this then?

The Daily Ping is the web's finest compendium of toilet information and Oreo™® research. Too much? Okay, okay, it's a daily opinion column written by two friends. Did we mention we've been doing this for over ten years? Tell me more!
