Pingers, I’m getting older. We all are. I realize I may be putting my True Chicagoan Membership™ at risk by admitting this but: I’m starting to tire of the cold winters here.
My Pingerpart, Ryan, is a fan of winter. And I have to admit that there are things I like, too. Snow can be very pretty. Warm foods and beverages like soup and cocoa come to the forefront… along with the holiday baking. While I haven’t tried it yet, I’ve heard great things about skiing.
But the underside of winter is all of the stuff that goes with that prettiness. Traveling around in the snow is a huge pain in the rear, be it driving, walking, or biking. Then there’s the pure cold – there’s nothing like feeling a cold wind in your bones when it’s about 10 degrees outside.
I’ve joked about some of the cold days in the past as being “character builders” but let’s be honest: they are. Part of me is wondering however if I could live with, say, 30 or 40 degrees being the coldest part of the winter. And I’m starting to think I could.

I am a fan of winter, but I’ve never lived in a place quite like Chicago that has long, intense winters. I wonder how I would fare in such a place and whether I’d change my tune.
