A true story for a late-day Ping.
A few years ago I started looking for a more… appropriate? snooty? elitist?… way of saying “duplicate.” For instance, “That text box on the bottom of the page is a duplicate; we don’t need it.” And somehow my brain got together with itself and decided that the right word for the job would be “duplicitous.”
I said it a few times and then I realized that no, it didn’t quite mean what I thought it meant. The single word definition in my computer’s dictionary is: “deceitful.” There you go.
So I apologize to all of those inanimate objects I decided were evil. I didn’t mean it, little text box!
