When I was just a wee lad, our house was the first on the block to get cable TV. Back then there were roughly, ah, a couple of dozen channels plus HBO. I distinctly remember HBO’s selection of movies being pretty limited which probably explains why one movie, The Incredible Shrinking Woman, is still on instant recall in my noggin.
I haven’t seen the movie in over 20 years so I needed a refresher on it. I was surprised – it seems to have a decent anti-chemical product message even though it’s from 1981… long before anything natural was really mainstream.
But truthfully, it’s not a hardcore movie. It stars Lily Tomlin, after all, so it’s a comedy. The two things that stick with me to this day: the jingle to “Galaxy Glue” – the product which shrunk Tomlin’s character in the first place – and the scene of her being swallowed by the garbage disposal. That freaked me out as a kid, and even though we didn’t have a disposal I was really, really afraid of our kitchen sink’s drain for a long time.
What would we do without Galaxy Glue?

I remember this one always being on cable TV, too, along with Bill Cosby: Himself.
I really liked TISW — her sitting in the gigantic chair… I may have to add it to my Netflix queue.

Wonder why netflix doesn’t have it? The DVD is for sale all the net. Well, you can see it on demand in the free movie section this month. I forgot how great the colors are in that movie!
