Newsless

Since we’ve been talking a bit about vacations lately I thought it’d be worth noting one thing that I love about vacations: being away from the news.

Oh sure, I’m sure a ton of things happened while I was away this weekend. Hillary probably dropped out, McCain folded, Bush resigned, there was peace in Iraq, gas prices dropped to $1 per gallon, and McDonald’s announced it was adding bidets to all of its men’s restrooms.

But not knowing what is going on, at least from the news media, can be very very peaceful.

I think the last item in your list is the only one I’d notice when on vacation since that’s the only reason to ever go into a McDonald’s to begin with…

I have embraced a news-free existence for a few years now. Yeah, folks think I’m nuts, but it isn’t that difficult, and it makes a huge difference in the way I face the world. Missing the occasional cultural reference is a small price. It really is just the same shit on a different day.

What is this then?

The Daily Ping is the web's finest compendium of toilet information and Oreo™® research. Too much? Okay, okay, it's a daily opinion column written by two friends. Did we mention we've been doing this for over ten years? Tell me more!
