lol

Another oddity of the English language I’ve seen lately: people will often put a lowercase “lol” at the end of sentences that may not even be remotely funny. For example:

i was going down the street and i saw a person lol

My theory? “lol” is the new emoticon. Instead of the :), :(, or even XD, it’s hipper and cooler to use “lol”… even though its meaning has been totally eliminated through its overuse.

Could be worse, I suppose.

I dislike “lol.” If you are laughing, please write “Ha ha” or better yet, “hee!”

LOL’s a heckuva lot faster to write than “Snort Laugh!”

Ciao,

What is this then?

The Daily Ping is the web's finest compendium of toilet information and Oreo™® research. Too much? Okay, okay, it's a daily opinion column written by two friends. Did we mention we've been doing this for over ten years? Tell me more!
