The other day I was talking to my mom and had a flashback to an 80s show starring Judd Hirsch (Taxi, co-starring with his sweaters in Swiss Miss commercials) titled Dear John. It ran from 1988-1992, won an Emmy and a Golden Globe, and starred a bunch of people I’ve never heard of (except the mighty Ben Savage, who appeared in three episodes).
I remember the theme, but not much else about the show, like how something about a guy getting left by his wife could run for four seasons. Anyone have any memories of this one?
I’m surprised this one’s not available on DVD yet.

I remember that show. It was often set at a support group meeting for recent divorcees that the Hirsch character attended. I can’t remember a single specific plot point though.

Ah, that’s right. And there was the wacky, aging, womanizing blonde guy in the group…

Yeah. Kirk. And then there was the nervous guy who was very often the target of Kirk’s shenanigans. I watch this show pretty religiously, and I’m not even sure why.

Definitely remember this – the theme particularly. But per IMDb, interestingly, one Deborah Harmon appeared on the show! That makes a connection to JTTOU in just one step.

You guys are so funny. I too remember the aging blond guy. It came on when I was in college, and I remember thinking it was Judd Nelson in the starring role when I heard about it! How disappointed was I…no brat pack stars to be found.
