Yesterday was the day of Earth Hour, wherein by turning lights off for one hour everyone would realize that our dependence upon fossil fuels is a silly silly endeavor and everyone should invest in solar power and start home composting heaps.
Or, well, not really. It was indeed done in order to raise awareness of climate change and, you know, not a bad idea at that. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I was in a place that didn’t participate in Earth Hour so I missed the eeriness of driving around Chicago in the dark. Thankfully the Chicago Tribune posted a quickie video showing the Chicago skyline. And… hm. You can tell that some buildings turned off their lights, but I was a little surprised at how many didn’t. The change isn’t as dramatic as I thought it would be, at least not for Chicago.
Ah well. There’s always 60 minutes to care about the environment next year.

Because I care so much for mother earth, I went way beyond one hour. My lights were out from 11 PM to 8 AM.
