Nerdy Text Goodness

Pinger Robert sent me a link (which I bet he got from BoingBoing!) to this awesome directed graph of a Choose Your Own Adventure. Better yet, it’s one of the best CYOAs there is: The Mystery At Chimney Rock by the mighty, mighty Edward Packard. It’s pretty amazing to see how deep and wide the graph is — these were pretty complex stories!

In similar news, the guy who did the amazing BBS documentary is coming out with a documentary on text adventures. Text is cool again (as if it ever weren’t)!

Excellent stuff.

One of the first games I ever played on a computer was a text adventure – Scott Adams’s “The Count” on the VIC-20. It was a little too grown-up for me but it also holds the honor of introducing me to the word “dumbwaiter”. I also recall carrying around a coat of arms that was heavy… just random stuff.

Never won that game. I was a kid!

What is this then?

The Daily Ping is the web's finest compendium of toilet information and Oreo™® research. Too much? Okay, okay, it's a daily opinion column written by two friends. Did we mention we've been doing this for over ten years? Tell me more!
