What I Like and Dislike About Facebook

What I Like About Facebook:
– Occasionally bumping into and reconnecting with an old friend.

What I Dislike About Facebook:
– Everything else, including: their messaging system, pointless applications (no, I don’t care if my friend from middle school added the Scrabulous application, kthx), “pokes” (or, God forbid, “Super Pokes”), etc.

I realize I’m a grumpy old man, but note that I do have a Facebook profile (shoot, I even have a stupid MySpace page… talk about the lowest of the low) and I even keep up with it, to a point. But once Facebook opened up to third-party applications, it became a free-for-all mess. It really takes a fair amount of effort to keep the crap out. And that kind of sucks.

I shut my Facebook account down last month. Haven’t missed it at all. I have a Myspace profile only because I keep up with a few indie bands that I like via their Myspace pages.

Grumpy old man over here agrees. I logged into my Facebook last week after being away for a week or two, and had 20-something “application” requests. Nothing like logging into your email and seeing other applications sending you spam.

I mean, I have a MySpace page as well (I feel so dirty), and I don’t get any spam from that.

I’ll hang onto it, and just disable or remove most, if not all, of the applications. I should have known better.

What is this then?

The Daily Ping is the web's finest compendium of toilet information and Oreo™® research. Too much? Okay, okay, it's a daily opinion column written by two friends. Did we mention we've been doing this for over ten years? Tell me more!
