Suit Guy

I’m not much of a suit guy.

I went to a private high school for a while where a buttondown shirt and tie were a part of the uniform, and jackets or suits were required on “special” days. We were warned in advance, which helped. But ever since then I’ve become less and less enchanted by wearing a suit and tie.

Since then I’ve pretty much only worn a suit on similarly special occasions: weddings (including my own!), funerals, and job interviews. That’s been it. And doing web code in a suit is not that fun.

I guess I just need the right suit.

I currently own one suit which I wore to an interview in 1999, and I am going to donate it to a shelter that supplies them to women for their job searches! I am sure there are organizations like this in most cities. (Dress For Success?)

I was in my late 40s before I owned a suit. And I got that only because my wife was a high school teacher and I was going to the “prom” with her.

It’s since shrunk a few sizes in the waist while hanging in the closet. Go figure.

Ciao,

I hate wearing suits. That said, I’ve gotten used to it. Whether it’s being on stage, or working in business meetings, it’s one of those things that I don’t think anyone really likes to wear, but is just a necessity.

In college, we had a dress code (that was lightened after I left, naturally) that stated that men had to wear a shirt and tie to class at all times. Since then, it’s never been a big deal for me. I’m more comfortable in a nice shirt and slacks, but a tie always feels like a noose to me.

To me, wearing a suit is like wearing a straightjacket. Can’t stand it. I even get uncomfortable in slacks. Shoot, I get uncomfortable *saying* “slacks.”

What is this then?
