I know I wrote about ’em before but I feel it’s important to mention a specific type of Twinkie: the Devil’s Food Twinkie.
Reaching back to my childhood, I remember stopping with my folks at a Hostess Outlet store near Midway Airport. (It was right under a flight path, of course, so it would get pretty loud at times.) And I remember first seeing the Devil’s Food Twinkies there. I don’t remember ever, ever seeing them elsewhere so I’m guessing they didn’t do well. And the packaging, well… the comments in this thread at X-Entertainment put it nicely. Twinkie the Kid was… brown.
The treats weren’t far off from, say, a Ho-Ho but that weird combination of the sponge cake (“Twinkieness”) and chocolate was off-putting. Did anyone else get to sample these?

I know of what you speak. The ever elusive devil food twinkie. I found them as recently as earlier this year but have not found them since. I find them absolutely delicious and have been on a never ending search for them. If you happen to discover them in your everyday dwellings please keep me in mind.

I remember the devil’s food Twinkies from my childhood (way back in the 80s). I’ve not seen them in decades, and have often wondered if they are still made. If anyone knows of any around central Kentucky I would love to know where I might find a nostaligic sweet taste of childhood!

I found some at my local Meijer store several years ago (around 2003 I think). A couple of years ago I wrote Hostess asking about them. They said they didn’t have any plans to make them anymore.

I remember seeing them in a supermarket in Boston in around 2002. Being very curious, I bought a box. They were delicious! The next week I went back to do my usual grocery shopping and wanted to buy more, but they were out. I’ve kept my eyes open since but have never seen them.
