Sort By Octane!

You know what annoys me? I mean, besides those darn kids and the confounded VCR?

Gas stations whose pumps aren’t sorted by octane. This morning I felt very lucky to stop at a gas station that had 87 octane, the cheapest, on the left. In the middle was 89 octane and on the right was 91 octane. Simple and it makes sense. Cheapest should be on the left, most expensive should be on the right.

But why is it that so many gas stations don’t follow this? I can’t count the number of times that 87 octane has been the middle choice. Are they trying to trick people into buying more expensive gas (parenthetical question: who buys the 89 octane, anyway? Don’t most cars take either the cheapest gas or the premium gas?)? Or do they honestly not even consider things like this?

It makes me mad enough to call into Are You Fed Up?!

I think it’s totally to trick you into buying the expensive stuff.

It’s just like the little ‘9’ at the end of the prices. Gas doesn’t really cost $3.49/gal.. it costs $3.499. They gouge us by almost a penny on every single gallon of gas we purchase. Jerks! It adds up over time…

What is this then?
