A TV show I remember fondly (really!) from the 80s is Fight Back! With David Horowitz. I wish I could say it was a crime drama, a time travel show, or a spinoff of What’s Happening!!! but alas, it was a consumer interest show.
David Horowitz, a consumer reporter guy I’d never heard of before said show, would do… uhm, consumer reporting. For instance, if someone had an issue with identity theft from a certain chain (called Leona’s), sending it in to Horowitz was the way to get it solved.
That wasn’t my favorite part of the show though; that would be the Commercial Challenge. You know how commercials make outlandish claims, like a phone will change your life or beer will get stains out? Horowitz would put these to the test. Seeing if Nu-Finish really did stand up to 52 car washes and if Timex could take a licking and keep on ticking was totally worth it for me.
I’d still watch a show like that today, particularly if it featured the Fight Back! theme song.

One of the stations in DC has a segment called “Does it really do that?” (I’m sure they struggled for days to come up with that one) that sounds pretty similar.
I think a show like that, though, half-depends on 80s clothing to be successful.
