Last night I attended a show at the Rock-n-Roll Hotel in DC. It’s a pretty cool venue that offers up good bands at a reasonable price. The main level has the standard bar and stage and the very large second level has another bar, a pool table, great old couches, and a series of themed rooms where people can just hang out. It’s a great space to use between sets because it’s cooler, quieter, and there’s plenty of room. Apparently, it used to be a mortuary. Neat.
After reading the Yelp reviews, I was thinking that it was in this super-scary area of town surrounded by bombed out buildings. Phrases like “intense,” “sketchy,” and “hardcore” were used to describe it. The truth? It’s fine. It’s in northeast DC and there’s not a whole lot happening in the area, but the streets were quiet, surrounded by residential neighborhoods, and it didn’t feel the least bit unsafe. It’s not exactly a hotbed of activity or development, but it was no San Fran crackwhore district, that’s for sure.
And that’s that. A nice, short, late, kind of empty Ping.
