I was leaving a men’s room at O’Hare airport last week and on my way out saw a curious little booklet with a picture of death on the front. Next to the picture was the happy phrase, “Hi there!” I opened it up and decided I had to bring it home with me.
Inside was a story of a construction worker who dies and goes to hell because he doesn’t accept Jesus as his savior. This story is drawn out in detailed comic book style and is really pretty entertaining.
My favorite part, though, is the dialogue. Notice that the construction workers go from the foul-mouthed stereotypes saying things like, “Look at this lousy peanut butter sandwich! @!!##! She knows I hate peanut butter!” to purveyors of thoughtful religious commentary saying things like, “We came from monkeys. In fact, we started out of the ocean as a blob of goo! So actually the ocean is our mother.”
Chick Publishing has a number of similarly interesting publications worth checking out. They may not convert you, but they’ll entertain you.

Someone mailed the “Someone Loves You” tract to everyone in my building a few weeks ago. I wish the freak had put on his/her return address so I could return the/a favor!!!
