I came in this morning and IM’ed Paul, “Woo boy, it sure is cold here today!” He responded, “I bet it’s colder here!” Even though I was dealing with a 10 degree temperature and -8 windchill, he topped me (bottomed me?) with a -9 air temp and -20 wind chill. In VA, we’ll reach 21 today, whereas Paul will only hit 1-3.
That’s cold. The type of cold where the air freezes before it leaves your mouth. Where you blow your nose and icicles come out. Brrr.
I broke out the scarf today, along with the gloves, knit cap, and doubled up jacket. What’s it your like your neck of the woods, Al Roker?

we’re under a wind chill advisory until tomorrow morning (it started sometime last week). It’s -9 here too, 2 hours north of Paul, with light winds. Though at these temps a light wind still can feel like a cold burn! The NWS radio says 10-30 minutes to get frostbite. In the sun it doesn’t feel bad at all out there. We have some really cool frost patterns on the windows, I’ll post some pictures in the DP flickr group pool tonight.

I drove to Penn State today because I wanted to be really cold. It was 0 degrees going up the 7 Mountains but warmed up to 4 in State College.
I predicted there would be people not dressed for it and I was correct. There was a student running in a long sleeved shirt and nylon shorts. Hello, it’s 4!!!
I truly don’t mind the cold IF there is little or no wind. My favorite winter temperature is 16. Fahrenheit. Favorite summer temp is 73.
I was in Miami 10 days ago enjoying 80 because 80 allows me to swim in January.
Andy–is 20 in summertime a celsius reading?

Okay Andy, before you go (or went) any further were you using C or F for your temperatures. I know Canada’s gone metric, but that doesn’t mean everybody uses, or for that matter understands, it.
I know when I lived in Upstate NY we hit a windchill factor of -40. For the uninitiated, that’s -40 C AND -40 F. There’s that one spot where it’s the same both ways.
Anyway, this morning, Tuesday, it was -8C (16F) and -14C with windchill. For northeastern North Carolina, that’s c-o-l-D!
JK – Andy’s 20=about 70F. Nice enough temperatures, for sure.

I visited my parents one summer, and the evening windchill was a record -80F. They were on the news warning people not to go outside, that even a few seconds could cause severe frostbite. It was.. scary.
And, no, they were not in Antartica. Just the northern midwest. Yikes!
