Yesterday, a co-worker’s cell rang and her ringtone was the “Can Can” song. And then I had a flashback to a commercial in the 80s for a supermarket advertising their canned goods with that song and images of women on stage kicking in unison, but all of the women had cans of corn and peas in place of their torsos. It was very, very weird.
Does anyone remember if this was a Superfresh or a Pathmark commercial? It’s killing me that I can’t remember.
(An aside: I love James “More Value for your Dollar” Karen because in addition to his Pathmark commercials in the 80s, he starred in both Return of the Living Dead and Return of the Living Dead 2. That’s a class act.)

Heh..just turned on the laptop for the first time today. 😉
Of course, it’s for Shop Rite supermarkets, used for their (bi?)-annual “Can Can” sale, where all canned food was heavily discounted. I remember the ads playing incessantly in the 80’s, but recently, they just use the theme for radio ads.
It was odd to see a picture of James Karen on IMDB without the glasses that made him famous in the Pathmark ads. Second, I thought he was dead. Seriously. Good to see he’s still alive and well in the “Return of the Living Dead” flicks.

I know it’s late, but Shop-Rite was the first thing I thought of when you said Can-Can…it’s been 15+ years since I’ve been near a Shop-Rite, and I could instantly visualize the TV commercial in my head from when I was a kid.
And I found this through Google, trying to find the name of the guy who did the Pathmark commercials in the 80’s….looks like James Karen is the guy. Thanks.
