We love the Chillow around here, but it’s been a while since we’ve talked about it. I’m still loving mine, but since I haven’t been terribly good about doing the once-a-month maintenance, it’s developed a slightly mildewy smell to it.
A while back, I wrote to the Chillow manufacturer and asked what I could do. For reference, here is what they suggested:
Dear Ryan,
Thank you for your email. It’s so nice to hear from a Chillow(r) fan!
The mildew smell is not really common but when it occurs the Chillow(r) can be washed. Please use your favorite cleaning solution and clean both sides gently and allow to dry completely before use and/or before storage. You can also add a 1/2 capful of bleach to a cup of water and add that mixture to the existing water in your Chillow(r). This should help with any mildew odor.
I hope these suggestions are helpful.
And now you know.
