I See… Web People

Ah, nothing like trying to reference a six-year-old movie in a Ping title.

This past week, Six Apart – the company behind blogging tools Movable Type, TypePad, and LiveJournal, unleashed their new website. While I miss the homespun feel of their previous site, the new one is a lot stronger and bolder.

And there are a lot more people.

I know I’ve read about this in the myriad usability and design articles I’ve read over the past five years, but Six Apart’s site stands out for its use of pictures of people. Real people. As noted by company prez Mena Trott, the people are largely Six Apart staffers. I dig it. I like it.

I know I’d much rather see a company’s actual employees on a site than Lovely Lynn. What? Okay, okay, I can make an exception for Lynn. But I’m tired of most of the “people” I see out there. It’s good to see real people.

What is this then?

The Daily Ping is the web's finest compendium of toilet information and Oreo™® research. Too much? Okay, okay, it's a daily opinion column written by two friends. Did we mention we've been doing this for over ten years? Tell me more!
