Random Birthday Memories

Every so often I find that a date has come and I recognize it as somebody’s birthday. The thing is, I’m terrible at remembering birthdays, for the most part, without some sort of automated help. But when these random birthdays pop into my head, they’re always for people I’m long out of touch with. For instance, today I remembered that tomorrow will be a friend from high school’s 30th birthday, but I haven’t seen or talked to this person in four years. And in the six years prior to that, we only talked twice.

Even stranger, a couple of years ago on August 1st it hit me like a brick. “It’s Brett’s birthday.” Just out of nowhere. Thing is, Brett was my best friend in fifth grade and I haven’t talked to him in 15 years.

Do you have any birthdays that are permanantly ingrained in your memory, even though the people aren’t people you’re close to anymore?
