The Daily Ping

There were rumors of a Ping book, but those were started on the internet.

Noteworthy Music

For some reason, Noteworthy Music popped into my head today.

Back in the early 90s, there weren’t many ways to buy music CDs online (whereas there are roughly 1.8 trillion online retailers now.) Noteworthy Music, on GEnie, had such a service. I recall buying a fair number of discs from them simply because they were cheaper – even after shipping.

I thought this 1992 Usenet post was pretty fascinating, too. One of the things Noteworthy offered was the poorly-named ROEG, which was a downloadable catalog of their entire CD selection.

In the end though, Noteworthy went out of business in 1997 (geez.) Thankfully there are places such as cheap-cds to carry the torch. But back then, there was something still magical about ordering Actual Things online.
