(Apparently, Paul is still enjoying his early days of wedded bliss… so, I’ll be covering for him with today’s late Ping…)
Eulalia Borne was a southern Arizona homesteader and teacher at rural Arizona ranch schools in the 1930s, 40s, and 50s. During that time, she also spearheaded an effort to publish a small newspaper written by the ranch children in her classes called The Little Cowpuncher. Do you think Ms. Borne had any clue that more than 50 years later, the entire would would be reading her students’ words?
The University of Arizona has put the complete texts of The Little Cowpuncher (1932-1943) online as well as a nice biography of Ms. Borne and more information about the schools where she taught. It’s quite amazing to read about the big rodeo and baseball games as seen through a ranch student’s eyes in the 1930s.
