Christmas Competition

A few years ago, my wife and I were driving around Falls Church, VA (or was it Annandale?) looking at Christmas lights. We wound our way through various developments, admiring the efforts some people put into their homes.

Then, we stumbled upon the holy grail of Christmas decorations. Decorations so over-the-top, it’s hard to imagine how they got to that point. To top it off, it wasn’t just one house, but two houses across the street from each other than apparently have a competition of sorts. Both houses have so many lights I can’t even imagine what their electric bills are. One has a special path towards a large nativity scene that plays music. One has a lit star about 30 feet high in a tree behind the house and the other has a series of moons and stars also high in the trees. And every year we drive by, there’s a lineup of cars basking in the gaudy glow of the white lights.
