Coke Pulled Me Over!

It looks like a few cash-strapped police districts are considering selling ad space on their cars to get some money. Really.

Ads might not be increasing in quantity, but it sure feels like it. A number of months ago I was in a KFC/Taco Bell. I studied a large painting/poster located inside the store, and it depicted a busy street intersection where the two restaurant chains “met”; the center was a KFC/Taco Bell, and all around were people eating food, carrying bags of food, etc. Buildings were typical… coffee shops, theaters, and so on. The interesting aspect of this poster, though, is that almost everything was emblazoned with the KFC or Taco Bell logo. I thought, “Gee, this isn’t far off.” It really wasn’t. While we don’t have clouds that look like Colonel Sanders or the Taco Bell… uhm… bell… we do have: corporate sponsorship of theaters, cars with ads on them, large billboards visible at ground-level… and almost everything that was in the painting.

I’m half-waiting for the day that jury duty notices come with a coupon for Chicken McNuggets.
