Yesterday at work, a coworker and I were standing in the kitchen, talking, when we heard a coin drop in the coin return slot on the vending machine. My coworker grabbed the dime as an unlikely prize, as we continued talking.
A minute later, I look over and the display on the vending machine goes from “Insert Coin” to “$1.00,” then to “$2.00,” all the way up to $25.00. I looked at my co-worker and said, “Hey, let’s get something.” We pushed the button for Kit-Kat (easy to split!) and sure enough, it dispensed us some free candy… and then it proceeded to dispense $24.40 in nickels! Our kitchen had turned into a casino…
About halfway through, the machine ran out of nickels, but continued to click as it tried to give us the rest of our imaginary money back.
If I was in college, I would have pocketed those nickels (or fed them back into the machine for more candy) so fast… but at work, it’s a different story. Still, getting a free Kit-Kat (with all of its milk fat and non-fat milk) will brighten up one’s day pretty quickly.
